The Association of Wheelchair Users of Namibia (AWCU) is a non-profit organisation established in January 2016. We are led by and for persons with disabilities, working to ensure that every wheelchair user in Namibia can live with dignity, autonomy, and full participation in society.
AWCU is formally recognised as an Organisation of Persons with Disabilities (OPD) under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and is a proud affiliate of the National Federation of People with Disabilities in Namibia (NFPDN).
We are legally registered as a Company Not for Gain under the Business and Intellectual Property Authority (BIPA) of Namibia.
We works to advance the rights, dignity, and inclusion of wheelchair users across Namibia through practical, community-driven action, and challenging stigma to create spaces where wheelchair users are seen, heard, and empowered to lead change.
Our monthly support groups create safe spaces for connection, shared learning, and emotional resilience among wheelchair users and caregivers.
“Before joining AWCU’s support group, I often felt isolated and unheard. Now, I’ve found a community that understands my journey, celebrates my strengths, and walks with me through every challenge. It’s more than support, it’s family.”
— Kakazona Jade Kasuto, AWCU Member
“Joining AWCU gave me more than just a membership — it gave me purpose. I found a space where my voice matters, my experiences are respected, and I can contribute to real change for wheelchair users in Namibia.”
— Shekinah Mpunwa, Proud AWCU Member
“Being part of AWCU means I’m not alone. As a member of an Organisation of People with Disabilities (OPD) and regional representative, I have the opportunity to speak out, stand in solidarity with others, and fight for meaningful change. Together, we’re making Namibia more accessible, one voice, one action at a time.”
— AWCU Leader & Erengo Region Representative
